In the footsteps of the Hansa

Stade revives the history of the Hansa with an adventure tour. During a live performance throughout the town true to the motto ‘In the footsteps of the Hansa’, 350 years of Stade’s Hanseatic history are presented in an entertaining way. On this guided tour, the guests will encounter eight different figures revealing a part of their lives at the time of the Hansa - in historical costume.

Experience a mariner’s wife talking about how Stade’s Hanseatic harbour evolved ’20 years ago’. Witness fine cloths being extolled at the market or the town crier making his annual address to the people - in ’bursprake’, the farmers’ language. Will ‘Bath Matron Ursula’ be able to convince Brother Johann of a bath in the tub? And why does the cloth merchant’s wife ‘Margerethe’ find the expulsion of Stade from the Hansa not such a bad thing?

The performance is offered to the public on set days and can also be booked for groups following individual date arrangement.
