Stade – fresh wind in the north

Picture: Stade - Fischmarkt Where Haneatic ships were unloaded a long time ago, goods weighed and cleared lay waiting for the next stage of the journey, today we find small shops, cosy pubs and cafés with inviting summer terraces directly by the water. The Hanseatic harbour amidst the lovely old town with the ketch-rigged sailing barge ‘Willi’ or the town harbour only a short walk away with its museum ship ‘Greundiek’ and the boats of the hobby skippers moored there, show that Stade’s traditional affinity with water and shipping lives on.

Picture: Stade - ship Schwingeflair Numerous maritime adventure tours are offered from Stade’s town harbour, for example with the cruise vessel ‘Schwingeflair’, the flat-bottomed ship ‘Tidenkieker’, the historical sailing ship ‘Wilhelmine von Stade’ or the canal boat ‘Aurora’.
