Residence with the biggest closed ensemble of half-timbered houses in Europe

Celle has century old half-timbered houses and unrivalled sights from its courtly time as a royal residence. 700 years of city history are still vibrant in Celle. The closed Old Town centre has over 500 half-timbered houses mainly from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Secluded inner courtyards, spaciously designed squares and facades witnessed the happenings over the centuries and still fascinate to this very day.

Celle is also a city of art and culture. Premieres in the castle theatre and private art exhibition openings artistically span the bow between the eras. The museums live through a chequered history: of both tradition and modernity. The Residence Museum, the Bomann Museum – the third biggest museum in Niedersachsen – and the 24-hour art museum are all outstanding. Celle invites you to relax.
