Weserbergland - Land of Fairy-Tales & Legends

Picture: Spa gardens Bad Pyrmont An exciting and varied journey is promised by the romantic hilly landscape of the Weserbergland with its rolling hills and the river that lends it its name. Beautiful, historic half-timbered towns line up along the river Weser from Hann. Münden to Hameln like pearls on a chain, in an idyllic river landscape.

Many famous fairy-tales and legends have their home here and against this picturesque background they come to life. Remember Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, the Pied Piper of Hamelin, Cinderella or Baron von Munchhausen? You may just come bump into some of these illustrious personages on a trip through the Weserberg region.

Picture: Castle Hämelschenburg Did you know that you'll find the largest collection of renaissance architecture north of the Alps in the Weserbergland? Splendid stately homes and castles in the Weser renaissance style line the route and lend the region its special charm. Nowhere else in Germany you will find such a big collection of castles and other buildings of the renaissance, the era from the 15th until 17th century. A bicycle is particularly good for exploring the Weserbergland. One of the most popular cycle routes in Germany, the Weser cycle route, leads from the Weserbergland to the Nordsee. Or do you prefer walking? Then discover the region more intimately on the Weserbergland walking route.

If you're more interested in getting away from it all and relaxing, you'll find a wide variety of health and fitness facilities. In the numerous spas and health resorts, you can let yourself be spoilt from top to toe.

Weser Cycle Route - Cycling along the River

Picture: Cycling along the river Weser The Weser cycle route is one of the most popular cycle routes in Germany. It's a comfortable ride all along its more than 500 km length. If you start in Hann. Münden it's a steady downhill, but even if you do it in the opposite direction, it's still a pleasant ride, as the gradient is very gentle. And in addition, the route runs along its own separate track almost all the way. Meaning that it's not just pleasant, it's also safe.

The route runs along the river almost all the way and is signposted throughout. The cycle route connects the picturesque Weserbergland, the flatter land of the middle Weser and the harbour town of Bremen, beyond which the route leads along the embankment of the Lower Weser to the mouth of the river where it flows into the Nordsee. To get the best out of the Weser cycle route, you should take your time. Visit the convivial towns, take a break for refreshments and take one of the many trail-ferries, which will take you across the river using just the power of the water. Or make yourself comfortable and cover a stretch of the journey on a convivial steamer.

Boat Trips on the River Weser

Picture: Pied Piper on front of a ship at the river Weser Travel in comfort on the river Weser and watch the landscape passing by and the people waving. Disembark, visit a convivial town and its historic city centre before continuing onward. A boat trip on the Weser is a must for every visit to the Weserbergland. And it's great to combine with a cycle tour on the Weser cycle route.

Bad Pyrmont – the Royal Spa

Bad Pyrmont in the heart of the Weserbergland is one of the best known health resorts with one of the richest traditions in Germany. With its mineral springs, first class therapeutic facilities and excellent range of health facilities, Bad Pyrmont has developed into a modern spa resort. Interesting events and diverse leisure opportunities ensure an interesting stay.

And Bad Pyrmont has plenty to offer - a spa park with palm garden, the pump room, fort and Pyrmont House with its underground arched walkways and its historic staterooms. Brunnenplatz with its Hylligen Born spring form the hub of the town. The interplay of historical architecture and southern flair is unique. The Hauptallee also starts here, today, as then, the main shopping street and the oldest health spa park facility in the world. It continues in the lower area as the "Water fun route“. You can try your luck in the casino with international roulette. And you can also really relax in Bad Pyrmont in the indoor swimming pool with wave machine and in the outdoor pool or in the Sole indoor and outdoor salt pool with sauna area.
