Nordhorn Animal Park – a Family Zoo in the Countryside
Nordhorn animal park is home to over 900 animals of 85 different species. The parks mascot is the increasingly rare wood bison. Small numbers only remain in North America. The zoo is dedicated to nature and animal conservation work. As well as supporting international conservation work and participating in European conservation breeding programmes it is intensively concerned with conservation of native species and the preservation of rare domestic animal species.
Ancient domestic animal species can be viewed on a big show farm in the animal park. The "Bunte Bentheimer" pigs deserve particular attention - the pig has its own conservation association. Animal lovers can support the work of the zoo by sponsoring the animals. Children can learn about zoology and biology close up in the environment zoo school whose slogan is "learning with all the senses“.
The café at the centre of the park has a large terrace with lots of trees. Next to this there is a play area and a petting zoo and there are various picnic areas around the play area - family friendliness has top priority in Nordhorn animal park.
