The Springe boar park is a zoo with an unusual history. In the 19th century the area was a designated hunting area for the Prussian court. Various game was kept, surrounded by a 16 kilometre long stone wall. Today, the boar park is a popular destination for nature lovers and game lovers. The boar park also has a bison enclosure.
To protect the bison from extinction, forest rangers and zoologists began breeding these native game animals as early as the 1920s. The once small enclosure is still today known as the bison enclosure. It has developed into a large zoo for native animals, housing numerous central European animal species. Public feeding is carried out at seven points in the park, in particular to tempt the wild boar out of the wooded areas. There is a historic hunting lodge in the boar park, which is also open to the public. Hunting is carried out under expert leadership.
