Nördlicher Teutoburger Wald – Wiehengebirge (TERRA.vita) Nature Park
What's so special about TERRA.vita? The nature park stretches in two thin green strips along the ridge of the Teutoburger Wald and the Wiehengebirge. It was the first German nature park to become a part of the European Geopark network and is one of the few nature parks in Germany with a wide diversity of landscape types.
Geopark with a history
Soil is the connecting element between the varying landscapes of the park. Dinosaur tracks, Varus' battle, salt water or lakes, all have their origins in the soil and this is the thread running through the park. There is history to be found here - including 300 million years of geological history. The range of important sites runs from the dinosaur tracks in Bad Essen-Barkhausen, through bronze age barrows to the famous Varus' battle in the Kalkriese museum and park.
You can recharge your batteries all over the park. You can enjoy sports such as walking, cycling, jogging, or mountain biking to the full in the huge outdoor fitness studio. With around 2,300 km of long distance and circular footpaths in romantic countryside and a 1,500 km network of cycle paths, you're sure to find what you're looking for. The many health spas have a wide range of health and fitness facilities. You'll feel like a new person after a stay in the TERRA.vita nature park. Relaxed and in harmony with yourself.
