Many farmhouses and estates in the rural districts of Niedersachsen have adapted to rural tourism. Over 400 farms offering holiday accommodation have joined together to form the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Urlaub und Freizeit auf dem Lande (Holiday and Leisure Time in the Countryside Association) and offer a comprehensive range of services for your next holiday in the country – from last minute offers to recipe ideas from the country kitchen.

Hay hotels – accommodation for people who travel differently

Prickly-posh barn beds are in! - And the hay pioneers among farmers are amazed to see how enthusiastically and by whom the new holiday offer is greeted. The rank of hay hotels in Niedersachsen now includes over 70 farms.
Hay and straw accommodation is offered from May to October. One sleeps in barns, lobbies or in other quaint hay or straw bedding. A toilet, sanitary facilities and most frequently also a shower are available, and you can individual packages, too.

Seven different hay tours take you all over Niedersachsen. For your holiday in a hay hotel please consider the following aspects:

• Booking of every farm you want to head for: 1-2 days in advance (groups 1 week in advance)
• Sleeping bag, towel, torch
• Weather- and particularly rain-prove clothing
• Previous arrangement with the landlord, if you want to bring dogs
• No smoking in the hay
