Protective and indomitable: the Gifhorn Guelph’s Castle

Picture: Gifhorn - Guelph's castle Duke Ernest of Braunschweig-Lüneburg and his brother Duke Franz of Braunschweig-Lüneburg, who reigned over the dukedom of Gifhorn from 1539 to 1549, commissioned master builder Michael Clare to build Gifhorn Castle. With the castle´s chapel, which was built in the style of the early Renaissance and which boasts late-Gothic style elements, Franz created one of the first sacred buildings in north-west Germany for Protestant religious services.

Tip:
Today the Historic Museum can be found in the castle and “Pater Laurentius” treats his guests to medieval dishes in the cellar vault.
