Castles and Forts

Niedersachsen's castles and stately homes are wrapped in history, with many sagas and fairytales woven around these splendid buildings. Whilst it used to be considered a privilege to be able to set foot in the castle, most of these splendid buildings are now in public hands and open to visitors.

From then on, for 123 years, the Guelphs reigned over the large British sphere of influence, leaving their imprint on European, American and world history. Steam engines, diesel and electric motors displaced the mills and many became superfluous and were eventually pulled down.

Niedersachsen's museums are as varied as their visitors. The state has more than 600 registered museums, to which can be added numerous private collections.
