Hann. Münden – the Town of Three Rivers

Picture: Barrage "Where the Werra and Fulda kiss, must they their names relinquish," – at the northwest edge of Hann. Münden, a stone indicates the coming together of the two rivers to form the Weser. This is the town’s birthplace, where ships used to have to stop and offer their wares at discount prices. The traveller Alexander von Humboldt considered Hann. Münden “one of the seven most beautifully situated towns in the world”. Today the town remains a real gem. Over 700 lovingly restored half-timbered houses of every era and style make a stroll through the narrow alleys a real experience.

Imposing Weser renaissance buildings and the towers and remains of the town walls mark the mediaeval townscape, alongside interactive water sculpture. The town centre square was redesigned as part of the EXPO and provided with modern aquatic artworks, which you can enjoy as the Hann. Münden water trail. And what would a visit to the town of three rivers be without a boat trip? From the water, you will enjoy a very different view of the half-timbered town.

For an exciting adventure for all the family, take a pirate trip, where pirates large and small can experience "Stapel" gateau and pirate’s rum, find out how the "Stapelrecht" trading privilege, which was in force for over six centuries and helped make the town prosperous, worked. Or use Hann. Münden as the starting point for your cycle tour along the Weser cycle route, which runs for 400 km all the way to Cuxhaven on the North Sea.
