The fact that it is almost completely surrounded by water played an important role in the life of the city, and still does today. Nowadays the Weser, Werra and Fulda no longer serve as trade routes, but provide plenty of space to experience the romantic river landscapes actively with a canoe, kayak, rowing boat or raft.
A connection between Werra and Weser was created with the opening of five new jetties in the Münden Nature Park in spring 2007. It is now possible to travel a total of 253 kilometres on the Werra from Themar in Thüringen and in the Weserbergland over 200 km as far as Vlotho. With sufficient jetty and resting possibilities for canoeists, kayakers and rowers there is nothing to stand in your way of discovering the idyllic river.
