Freudenthalweg

Picture: Marking of the Freudenthal hiking trail Length: 86 kilometres, 6 days

Starting from Hamburg/Harburg, the section of the Freudenthalweg described here includes, on its way south, the Luneburg Heath. This unique protected landscape inspired the Freudenthal brothers to lyrical declarations of love at the end of the 19th century. The heath, with its great views, deciduous forests and streams running through tree-lined valleys, is definitely the highlight of this interesting walk. The 'Heidebahn' heathland railway connects almost all the overnight stops, making undertaking the walk from a fixed location very easy.
